Michael D. Barker
Since founding Barker Pacific Group in 1983, Mr. Barker has directed the development of over $2.0 billion in commercial projects. His active focus is the acquisition, development and management of residential and commercial property. Over the past three decades, he has organized projects in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay area, San Diego, Phoenix, Houston, Miami and San Antonio. Prior to starting BPG, Mr. Barker was an officer at Hines where he headed up development of over 4 million square feet of office space in the southwest US. Mr. Barker is on the Board of Pepperdine University, the Urban Land Institute, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation and Lambda Alpha International. He holds a MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and a BBA from Abilene Christian University.
Founded Real Estate Investment Bank Palladian Capital in 1995 that specializes in capital raising, transaction structuring and financing and real estate advisory and consulting. In that span, Mr. Woods has led over $3 billion of equity placements on behalf of over 25 clients in all areas of real estate investment, including office, retail, resort/hospitality, multifamily and land development. Mr. Woods is an adjunct professor for graduate-level courses at Stanford University, teaching the renowned real estate development course. Bob has a BA in Economics and Accounting, MS in Construction Engineering, MS in Architectural Engineering, Engineer Degree with thesis in Real Estate Acquisitions from Stanford University, and MBA, PhD candidate in Finance. He was a Consulting Professor of Real Estate Development and Finance at Stanford University. He is a Director of Gencorp, a NYSE listed defense contractor.
Jeffrey Rutishauser has over 25 years of real estate experience spanning the industry – Equity Investment, Development, CRE Financing and Advisory Services. Prior to Palladian, he was CEO of Amstar Global Partners, a $335 million Private Equity Fund that developed major commercial and hospitality projects internationally. He was also a Managing Director of AIG Global Real Estate and head of the AIG/Lincoln Joint Venture that developed over $3 billion of Class A projects in central and eastern Europe. He held senior investment positions at Westbrook Partners, NorthStar Capital Investment, GE Capital and DaimlerChrysler Capital. In his real estate career, he has led over $5 billion of investment and development for the companies he has worked for, both in the US and internationally. Mr. Rutishauser received an A.B from Dartmouth College, a B.Eng. From Thayer Engineering School (Dartmouth) and an MBA From Amos Tuck Business School (Dartmouth).
Richard Johnson is Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President at Barker Pacific Group. Mr. Johnson originates and negotiates the underwriting of proposed projects. He analyzes the financials of deal structures, closes project financing and manages the company’s internal operations. During his tenure at Barker Pacific Group, Mr. Johnson has been involved in financing over $2.0 billion of commercial projects. Before coming to Barker Pacific Group in 1985, Mr. Johnson was a Senior Vice President at Guardian Savings and Loan in Houston, where he managed a $450 million commercial real estate portfolio that consisted primarily of new construction. Prior to joining Guardian, Mr. Johnson was the CFO of Michels Financial Corporation in Milwaukee and the Audit Manager of Arthur Andersen & Company in Milwaukee. Mr. Johnson holds a MA in Accounting from Ohio State University and a BBA from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Ryan Kelly is a Principal with Palladian Capital Advisors. He previously served as President of DDRM, an Anaheim, CA-based real estate development firm. In this capacity, he had responsibility for day-to-day executive decision-making, and general management of more than 35 employees. He was also integrally involved in securing financing (debt and equity) and project management of the prestigious five-star level St. Regis Resort and Residence development project in Deer Valley, as well as similar endeavors for mixed-use resort projects in Park City, Sun Valley and Palm Springs. During his career, Ryan has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in start-up, acquisition, growth and re-capitalization capital in a variety of industries. He also brings to the organization deep corporate finance, investment, and strategic experience from his previous experience as an Associate with the Global Restructuring Group of UBS Warburg in San Francisco, and as an Analyst with Bel Air Investment Advisors in Los Angeles. Ryan is multi-lingual, and holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Mark Handin is a Partner at Barker Pacific Group. He is currently focused on sourcing acquisition opportunities in the Southwestern United States. In addition to his acquisition role, Mr. Handin serves as an Asset Manager for a 25-property, mixed-use portfolio that is owned by Barker Pacific Group and a large institutional investor. In the Asset Manager role, Mark oversees the acquisition, disposition, marketing, construction, and property management functions. Prior to his arrival at Barker Pacific Group in 2008, Mr. Handin served as a Development Associate for BayRock Residential, a Northern California multi-family, mixed-use developer. At BayRock, Mark focused on every aspect of the “deal cycle”, from underwriting potential acquisitions, to construction project management. In this position, Mr. Handin regularly interfaced with equity investors, city officials, general contractors, and marketing consultants. Mr. Handin holds a Master of Real Estate Development degree and Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern California. Mark received his B.S. in Finance from the University of Arizona, where he was also a member of the University of Arizona Rugby Team. Mr. Handin is also an active member of ULI’s Young Leader Group in Los Angeles.
Kewei “Kevin” Tan
Kevin Tan is a Partner at Barker Pacific Group. He is responsible for solicitation, review, underwriting, and market research of potential office, industrial, self-storage and retail property acquisitions and conducts due-diligence.
Since joining BPG in 1997, Mr. Tan has been involved in the successful closing of more than $1.4 billion in commercial real estate transactions, including the acquisition and refinancing of Union Development Company, an entity comprised of 25 properties. In addition, he is a part of the asset management team for the company portfolio, reviewing property budget, leasing, and providing financial training to property managers.
From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Tan served as Project Manager for Beijing Tian Hong Group, the third largest state-owned real estate developer in Beijing, China. Mr. Tan supervised the construction of over 3 million square feet of new residential communities.
Mr. Tan holds a Master’s degree in Real Estate Development from the University of Southern California and a dual Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Economics and Management from Tsinghua University, the premier university in China.
